IND vs AUS: Shreyas Iyer Ruled Out Of Australia ODIs, Confirms India’s Fielding Coach T Dilip

Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the ODI series against Australia due to a reoccurrence of his lower-back injury. Iyer did not bat in the second innings of the fourth Test against the Aussies. Skipper Rohit Sharma will not be available for the first ODI as Hardik Pandya will lead the side in his absence.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Team India fielding coach T Dilip confirmed Shreyas Iyer’s absence from the series. Iyer missed the first Test due to his back injury, played the second and the third, and now has aggravated his injury once again.

Injuries Are Part And Parcel Of The Game: T Dilip On Shreyas Iyer

“Injuries are a part and parcel of the game. We have the best medical facilities and they are well-equipped… We are in co-ordination (with NCA). Shreyas ruled out of this series. (We will be able to provide) further update as and when we know,” India’s fielding coach Dilip told reporters in his debut press conference.

The Indian think tank is yet to name Shreyas Iyer’s replacement for the ODI series against Australia. There BCCI has many options including the likes of Sanju Samson, Deepak Hooda, Krunal Pandya, Rahul Tewatia, and Rahul Tripathi to name a few.

Iyer’s lower back problems resurfaced in the 4th Test and the star batter didn’t come out to bat for the hosts in the 1st innings against Australia. Iyer was later ruled out of the 5th Test on the final day of the series decider due to lower back pain.

KKR Sweating Over Shreyas Iyer’s Fitness

His lower-back injury has now put Iyer’s future in IPL 2023 in doubt as well. Kolkata Knight Riders will be sweating over the fitness concerns of their captain. In case he is ruled out of the IPL, KKR will need an experienced Indian player as his replacement with potential leadership experience. Earlier, Iyer was also unavailable for the New Zealand ODI series with the same injury. Iyer has amassed 1631 runs in 42 ODIs for Team India.
