Michael Jordan was a presiding force in the NBA during the 1980s and the 1990s. And although he was perceived to be inhumane, Jordan needed time to recuperate himself like any other human, and His Airness found that comfort in the home of his mother-in-law. Michael Jordan is widely remembered for his actions on the court. His ability to not be phased in the face of adversity made him stand out. Jordan’s character embodied that of someone who didn’t tire and thrived in moments that were considered impossible to perform.
Jordan’s motor and engine were tuned to withstand the barrage of mental torment and physical damage he underwent on a nightly basis. MJ’s durability and mettle to endure the physical trauma he was put through is and will be undeniably unmatched.
With that being said, the six-time NBA champion had to revitalize and reenergize himself wherever the opportunity presented itself. Due to the fact that the nightly fixtures indeed took a toll on him.
And amidst the chaos of his popularity, the NBA Hall of Famer found it impossible to gain peace in his 14 million mansions. So he rather opted to do so from the house of his mother-in-law, Dorothy Vanoy.

In his biography, Michael Jordan: The Life, Roland Lazenby detailed how the five-time NBA MVP would abandon his $14 million mansion. And resort to residing in the house of his mother-in-law, Dorothy Vanoy.
As per Lazenby’s account, Jordan had a soft side for the house, as did his ex-wife, Juanita Vanoy. The book disclosed that when Jordan wanted to gain some peace of mind, he would make an escapade to the home.
“One of Jordan’s simple escapes, when he managed to land for a few days in Chicago, was the couch at his mother-in-law’s house on the South Side, where he could zone out on TV and load up on Dorothy Vanoy’s old-fashioned mac and cheese. Juanita was six months pregnant, with an active two-year-old underfoot; she, too, sought the sanctuary of her mother’s home. It was as good a place as any for Jordan to keep track of Krause’s off-season manoeuvrings to upgrade the roster.”
As mentioned above, it also enabled the Chicago Bulls legend to be vigilant regarding the activities of the Bulls and specifically Bulls general manager, Jerry Krause.
Krause is infamous for his man management with talents, with Scottie Pippen being the ideal attestation to that. Although, to Krause’s credit, he was the one who transcended the fortunes of the Bulls with his talent acquisition.

It was no secret that Jordan was hounded by the media throughout his career. Therefore it is easily comprehensible why these getaways meant so much to him. For someone to be in the spotlight 24/7 365 would be a strenuous task. Let alone, for someone of the stature and caliber of Michael Jordan.
It’s no surprise that Michael Jordan came back and governed the NBA the way he did, as the time off would have assisted his mental fortitude significantly.
